Join Tom Wopat for a Christmas you’ll never forget! Tom will be appearing at the Enid Symphony Hall in Enid, Oklahoma on November 30th and December 1st. This performance is part of a larger nationwide tour. Tom will be available after the performance to meet fans, sign autographs, and take photos with his fans. You can also purchase copies of his albums then, as well. Tickets are on sale at the Enid Symphony Hall.
After a long absence, HazzardNet fan of the month is back with a worthy recipient. Roth Potter joined HazzardNet in April of 2013 and already has over 500 posts, most notably the Rare and Behind the Scenes Pictures thread in our forums. Give me a hand in congratulating Roth Potter for being HazzardNet’s Fan of the Month for October 2013.
A friend of mine was in Tennessee last month and knowing me to be an avid Dukes fan, sent me several brochures of the Hazzard County Dinner Theater, located in Pigeon Forge. The Hazzard County Hoedown is a musical dinner show tribute to Dukes of Hazzard that features all the characters from the show, plus an all you can eat buffet that would make Boss Hogg proud. The menu includes: Daisy’s pot roast, pulled pork, fried chicken strips, corn, coleslaw, potato salad, bbq baked beans, mac n’ cheese, green bean casserole, banana pudding, and chocolate chip cookies. To learn more or to get tickets, visit HazzardCountyDinnerTheater.com.
The cast of The Dukes of Hazzard will be in Ennis, Texas at the Galaxy Drive-In for Hazzard Homecoming Texas Style the weekend of October 19-20. Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke), Tom Wopat (Luke), Ben Jones (Cooter), James Best (Rosco P. Coltrane, y’all), Sonny Shroyer (Enos) and Rick Hurst (Cletus) will be there. The General Lee (probably dozens of them) will be there as well as other replicas of cars from the show. Cooter’s Garage Band will be there to provide some rockin’ tunes and you can catch a special screening of Return of the Killer Shrews at the Galaxy Drive-In.
We don’t have much in the way of details yet, but Figures Toy Company just announced that they will be releasing new Dukes of Hazzard action figures. The first series will feature Boss, Rosco, Bo, and Luke action figures. Future series will feature Daisy, Uncle Jesse, Cooter, Cletus, Enos, and more. The Dukes of Hazzard action figures will be available in both 8 inch and 12 inch sizes.
The next Dukes of Hazzard Reunion in Byron, Georgia might be twice as big if organizer Chris Jennings’ plans work out. He is in talks with Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields to add a Smokey and the Bandit Reunion to the show. The reunion in Georgia brought in 53,000 fans this year and it is estimated that the show would be double that next year if Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields attend.
“‘Smokey and the Bandit’ has a huge following as large — if not larger — than the ‘Dukes of Hazzard,’ “Jennings said. “To bring all of these cast members together is absolutely historic.”
As Dukes of Hazzard fans know, Burt Reynolds played Boss Hogg in the 2005 movie. With that tie-in, plus the fact that there is such crossover appeal between the two fandoms, it seems natural to put the two together in one big fan event.
Like Dukes of Hazzard, Smokey and the Bandit has lost some cast members over the years. Jackie Gleason, who played Sheriff Buford T. Justice, passed away from cancer in 1987 and Jerry Reed, who played Cletus “Snowman” Snow, passed in 2008 due to complications from emphysema.
If you missed the chance to meet the Dukes of Hazzard cast at the Reunion in Georgia earlier this month, never fear! The entire cast will be at Cooter’s Place in Nashville on June 8th for Dukes of Hazzard Fan Fair. In addition to the opportunity to meet the cast and get their autographs, there will be a Hazzard County Car Show and a “Youngun’s” area for children’s activities.
The day will end with a a Hazzard Hoedown concert at the Nashville Palace featuring the whole cast onstage with Cooter’s Garage Band. For more information and to get tickets ($10), visit CootersPlace.com.
This past weekend in Byron, Georgia, you would have thought you were in Hazzard County. Thousands of Dukes of Hazzard fans, young and old, showed up to pay tribute to the show and to meet the cast of the show. Organizers of the event estimated some 60,000 fans total attended over the weekend. There were, of course, plenty of General Lees on hand, as well as patrol cars and other vehicles from the show. If you were there, why don’t you tell us about your experience in our forums. Also, check out some video interviews with the cast and the fans at the event.
