The rumours are true. CMT will be ending it’s run of the Dukes of Hazzard sometime later this summer. But they’re not just pulling the plug on the program. They’re giving the Dukes a true, Hazzard style send off!

And why not? CMT owes a lot to the Dukes of Hazzard for bringing in the viewers and the ratings.  And they’re obviously very much aware of that.

“After a fantastic two-year run, it’s time to give the Dukes a proper CMT farewell with a summer primetime block,” says Mary Beth Cunin, vice president of programming strategy, CMT. “We want fans to be able to watch the series from the beginning and relive their favorite Dukes moments before the General Lee rides off into the sunset.”

CMT will do some pre-farewell programming starting the week of May 28, with Dukes themed episodes of Custom Built and Video Replay on CMT Loaded, along with an episode of CMT Outsider which will show some behind-the-scenes stuff of DukesFest.

Then things formally get underway the weekend of DukesFest on June 1. (By the way, y’all got yer tickets? Git on over to Cooters Place and git ’em while they’re hot!).  The Dukes will be airing on CMT in a new timeslot for the send off, Monday through Thursday 8pm – 10pm. That’s two hours of the Dukes! Yeeeeeeeehaaaawww!

CMT’s Top Twenty Countdown will shoot a special episode at DukesFest which will air on June 7th.

Thank you CMT for picking up the Dukes of Hazzard two years ago. You’ve been a great home for the Dukes and although we’re sad to see them go (again), somehow we get the feelin’ that they’ll be back (again). Khee!

We’re feeling like we’re watching the episode Ten Million Dollar Sheriff, only instead of Rosco, it’s Bo. The $10 Million bid for John’s General Lee, unfortunately, was a deadbeat.

It’s unknown at this point if any of the other bidders below that 10 million will come through, or if this thing could land in some kind of court somewhere, since bidding on eBay is a legal and binding contract. Frankly, none of us here at HNet are really surprised, but still we hate to see this happen to John. So congratulations to the moron who bid the 10mil and skipped on it. You’re not even worth a rusty Ford Pinto.

Yes folks, John’s General sold for nearly 10 million dollars and the event has spread like wildfire through the news wires. You can read the CNN article here….

General Lee Sells for $10 Million

We certainly hope this $10 million bid turns out to be legit tho’. Otherwise, John might end up like Rosco with his inheritence and be lucky to end up with a $10 General…

John Schneider sold a General Lee he built on eBay. His General Lee has been featured on many television programs and in John’s new film Collier and Co. It sold for nearly $10 million.

Update: The $10 million bid was fraudulent. John Schneider’s General Lee eventually sold for $450,000.

Contrary to some expectations, the sales of “Dukes of Hazzard – The Beginning” haven’t fallen flat. In the first week of release, sales were good enough for “The Beginning” to debut at # 16. This is a respectable position for any DVD in its first week.

Sitting comfortably in the Top 20, “The Beginning” is expected to rise in sales as the spring break season continues. Whether “The Beginning” has the stamina to last long-term, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, its worth noting that the 2005 Dukes movie has sold 5 million DVD’s. This is on top of the robust DVD sales of the original series. With several Dukes of Hazzard titles on retail shelves, Warner Bros will probably find more ways for the Dukes to make a dollar.
