The first official DukesFest took place in a large open field behind Cooter's Place in Sperryville, VA on August 24-26, 2001. It was fairly modest compared to later events, featuring a few dozen General Lee replicas, LEE1 in its unrestored form, the surviving main cast, and some activities for young fans. There was a stage set up in the field for music and for the cast to perform. The crowd was estimated to be five to ten thousand fans strong.
