Halloween's comin' up and we're looking for a few good stories!
Write a Halloween-themed Dukes of Hazzard story and submit it by October 28th 2008, or become a ghost!
Here's how it works. Announce your intentions here in this thread that you're going to write a Halloween story (or finish one if you've got one in the works) and have it in by midnight, October 28th, 2008 (US Pacific time. Although we have fans all around the world now so we'll take into consideration time differences.)
Submit your stories to me at maryacltrn "at" yahoo.com. Please put Ghost Post Challenge in your subject line. Stories will be posted at DOHFF.
If you announce you're gonna write a story and then fail to make the deadline, you'll become a ghost for a "spell." Heh heh. Those who miss the deadline and become spookified will have to post here at HNet in italics, and will also have a special avatar for the duration of their outta body experience. Their "ghostly" existence will last for two weeks.
We're also thinking that they'll be subject to "summoning", and if invoked to respond on a particular thread or topic, that they'll be obligated to "appear" and put a comment.
Or you can avoid this fate by completing a story and having it in by midnight of October 28th.
Like Brian pointed out in another thread, we're not exactly looking for the slasher/hack 'em up type stories but "spooky stuff, creepy stuff, or Halloween-themed shenanigans are fine. This could be one of those times where the ol' dream sequence scenario comes in handy."
So there you have it! The Ghost Post Challenge!
Let's all have a spook-tacular time!

Awright, just to make things o-fficial here and give y'all an idea of how to state your intentions....
I, MaryAnne Coltrane, hereby declare that I will attempt to complete a Halloween story and have it submitted by midnight, October 28th, 2008. If I fail to complete a story I understand that I will become a ghost and will be subjected to the requirements of being a ghost as set forth in this challenge.

Alright, seeing that someone has recently thrown down the gauntlet at me about this challenge in a private meeting, I have no choice but to answer the call.
To answer your question Alex, I'm not chicken. I do not lay yellow eggs.
I'm actually a turkey and this turkey, I, Valerie Marie Strate accept the ghost post challenge and plan to turn in a story by the due date or I will be used as a Thanksgiving sacrifice. *Plttth* So there!
I will answer this call or so help me you may make me into a ghost by serving me for thanksgiving dinner with a side of MaryAnne's buns! Bahahaha!

We have to declare this formally? I've heard the expression "signing your life away" but ....
*takes a good long look at the terms and conditions* What sick, twisted mind came up with this evil scheme?
Still, I can't let ya'll face the madness alone. Formal declaration, eh? Awright...
I, Brian Coltrane, hereby declare that I will attempt to complete a freakin' Halloween story and have it submitted by midnight, October 28th, 2008. If I fail to complete a story by the...deadline, I understand that I will be subject to the terms and conditions of the Ghost Post challenge. Namely, that I'll find myself tossed into the abyss - probably located somewhere in our archive section - and become a ghost, which shouldn't be an imposition considering most of my efforts here are fairly invisible anyway.

09-22-2008, 07:54 PM
Hope you don't mind but I will make the pledge for both me and my other half since we will write one together!
We, Bo James and Daisy Mae Duke, hereby declare that we will attempt to complete a Halloween story and have it submitted by midnight, October 28th, 2008. If we fail to complete a story by the DEADline (lol), we understand that we will become ghosts, left to haunt the likes of Hazzardnet. Though we both admit that the ability to float and go through other Hazzardites would be ghoulishly awesome, we promise to do our best to prevent that from happening. I Daisy Mae also promise to refrain from being a "witch" to Bo if he is lazy about writing. I will do my best to be patient and kind;)

Me and LoriDavenport are co-writing one together, and since she's already posted in here that she was going to do one, we both agree to have it turned in by the due date and we both know the consequences if we don't.

Just a reminder, we're heading into October and the grains are running through the hourglass. Anybody else besides Mufn have their story done yet? Or almost done?
Mine's going ok, except it's supposta be a ghost story, and the protagonist ( antagonist? heh heh ) in the story seems to be a little hesitant on charging ahead into oblivion. Which means I'm missing some detail or another in the scene, so I'm taking my time with it.
Okay, maybe I'm stalling. Maybe I can't do it. Maybe I can't write that. GAAAAH!!

I’m on page 10, which means I’ve past the beginning point and I’m into the fic’s middle. As long as the muse juice doesn’t run out and I don’t get lazy, we’ll be fine. I got a creature feature going for my story. So far the protagonist just found out he is the antagonist. Talk about Jerry Springer! This guy gots issues! In more ways than one.
I guess being a Halloweenie baby gives one energy for this time of year. Now if I can just find a radio station that plays all Metallica all the time, I’ll really have the muse juice pumping!
Okay, maybe I'm stalling. Maybe I can't do it. Maybe I can't write that. GAAAAH!!
Ah, Brian you’ll be fine. You work best under stress. I got faith in ya man. You’re panicking which means things are going fine for ya. ;)

For the record, since Brian asked, we've received three stories so far. But, as noted above we got 18 days to go. A lot can happen in 18 days. :D

Daney, are you playing to lose? Benefits to being a ghost....I can't really think of any! Personally I plan to put off that experience for as long as possible.
Except for MaryAnne's writing, which sounds like it's gettin' sinister. I shoulda known it would come to this some day. After years of petty bickering, pranks, duels, and squabbling over day-old baked goods left at the office.....now we're officially authoring each other's demise.
And if the photoshop taunts are any indicator, MaryAnne's parting with the earth looks very dramatic and creepy. Here it is again, just to annoy her.

Quick reply heah....
Julie, I'm not a big Stephen King fan, but I have read Christine, and I saw the movie years ago. Lotsa fun. Out of all his books, my favorite is "The Eyes of the Dragon." It's a great time-period drama, and if you're into medieval themes you'll dig it.
MaryAnne, why is it we don't have our stories done, but we can fritter away time making creepy photoshop effects? In the process, I notice you've made the After-Hazzard look a mite darker. You sinister fiend! I think you're enjoying yourself just a little too much with this. We'll find out just how far you take things by the 28th.
I don't know whether to look forward to the story, or...freak out now and save myself some time. Gah!

Quick Andedote here and very true story, when my younger brother Doug was in Cub Scouts he found our father's copy of Christine well he wanted to read this for his pack. Our Father didn't let him take the book to his meeting, thank goodness on this right here. I've seen the Red Rose and some other ones as well wait a minute didn't Stephen King write "The Green Mile". I've seen the movie before it's pretty good.

Nice job on the flag avatar, MaryAnne. That would come in handy IF I was going to be late turning in my story. Which I'm not. Far as I can tell at this point, anyway!

The Ghost Post Challenge is about to hit the deadline!
MaryAnne says she got 4 new stories in today, in response to the challenge! Which ( witch? heh heh) brings our completed entries to 7! Congrats to all who completed a story, MaryAnne will have them posted soon!
Am I done with my story? Uh...no. I'm still working on it. Yeah, yeah, I know what that means. But it's a few minutes till midnight , my time, so I get away with one more full in the flesh post here.
Did MaryAnne finish her story? Well, I'll let her announce that one herself!
Meantime....looks like I'd better get into the "spirit" of thangs....

Yeah, all this time I've been goofing around in Photoshop, I could have been writing! Vain creature that I am, I got all caught up in the image. Literally. Ah well.... I'm sure the main character in my story doesn't mind extending her stay in oblivion just a little longer!

I'm in oblivion across the board anyway. Your story, my story and now, here at HNet. ROFL.
Well, like I said above I didn't get my story finished in time either. I am going to finish it but I don't think it'll be in time for Halloween.
Meantime, our grand total of stories completed is eight! Now I gotta go back in the thread here to see if anyone else said they were gonna do a story and then didn't complete it. Otherise, Brian and I are gonna haunt this place all by ourselves for the next two weeks.
Which will probably be entertaining nonetheless. Khee!
I should have the stories posted up tomorrow night. I'll make the appropriate formal announcement here when I do! Congrats and great job to everyone who took part in the challenge!

Whoa! This thing works great! Oh lets see...I'll have a roast beef on wheat bread with Swiss cheese and horse radish, oh! And a pint of coleslaw!
Kidding! I'm kidding!
*clears throat* Actually I just had a question for now. Is this spectral activity in just Hnet or does it apply outside of Hnet as well? I pose this question to both of you spirited spirits.
I'm just concerned that someone could call Ghost Busters on you two and I dont want that!

10-30-2008, 01:49 AM
You're enjoyin' this just a little too much, Alex.
Now, as to your question. Namely, does this spectral circumstance apply to any of our other...haunts. Heh!
Going off of the original spirit and intent of the challenge - it was meant for HNet. I really didn't think about going beyond that, as I didn't figure I'd end up going beyond to begin with, but heah we are.
BOOOOOO!!! Sorry, that's been kinda buildin' up. Had to let it out. Where was I....
Oh yeah. I was gonna say, I'll let MaryAnne weigh in on this - or weightless in on this, as the case may be. I kinda think, at first pale, that it would be difficult for MaryAnne to manage her blog with this ghost post shenanigan going on. To anybody not in on the scheme, it wouldn't make sense.
It wouldn't affect my blog at all, since I hardly ever update the thing these days. Anyway, MaryAnne manages the DOHFF site too, and whether she decides to honor this condition any further and elsewhere is up to her. I'll go along with whichever way the wind blows.
In the meantime, let's give her time to ghoul that one over.
Man, it'll be a mercy when this thang is over with so my bad jokes will stop. MUAHAHAHAHAA! BWAAHAHAHA!!

Well, we only had a ghost of a chance getting through this with any dignity. You know what I can't believe, is that everybody else finished their stories! Far as I know! I'm looking forward to reading them. I know MaryAnne's working on sorting them all out for uploading.
Hm, this puts a whole new twist on the "ghost writer" thing, don't it.
Which gives me another idea for a challenge within a challenge. Since MaryAnne and I are the last two without finishing a story....maybe we should have a spook-off. A contest to see who can finish their story first. The winner gets to un-ghost upon completion of the story. The loser.....well, what should the loser get? I gotta be careful just in case that's me. Hmmm.
I'll have to dwell on it a spell.

I'm just as surprised as you are Brian, the way your posts were sounding, I thought you were as close to finishing as I was! As for your challenge within a challenge, a good idea! But if I may make a suggestion, as you said the winner gets their body back, so to speak, and the loser has to fulfill the two weeks being a ghost!

Mmmm, yes Happy Halloween indeed. I guess I don't lay yellow eggs, Hhhmm Alex?
Since you have stepped up to the plate and did such a fine job on Dark Ripples, Alex, your Dukes/Supernatural Cross over, maybe you should do a Christmas story as well?
Hhhhmmm, which gives me an idea. Well, really, it is your idea and I just elaborated on it, because you did challenge me by throwing the gauntlet down to do a story. Why don't I challenge you now to do a Christmas story with the Winchesters returning to Hazzard? There is a catch; you cannot mention Santa at all in the story.
Now if anyone else wants to partake in the challenge you do not have to do a Dukes/Supernatural cross over but you cannot mention Santa. I would be held to those rules as well.
Looser could have to tote around an icon in their signature that had lumps of coal and say something along the lines that we were bad because we did not complete our challenge stories. In addition, we could have Grinch Avatars for the losers for a few weeks. I'm sure MM, Brian, and MaryAnne could come up with something in photo shop for those of us who make the 'naughty' list.
What do ya say Alex? You up for it? Or are you a frozen chicken?

I'll start a new O-fficial thread for it to post the particulars, time frame, rules an' regulations, disclaimers and whatnot. LOL.
It'll be like our Ghost Post Challenge, where folks will have to post their intention to write a story in the thread and if they don't make the deadline they'll have to suffer the consequences.
