I see that Hank Jr's 25th anniversary of "Country Boy Can Survive" has hit number one in CMT's videos this week. That song and "What the world needs is a few more rednecks" by The Charlies Daniels Band remind me a lot of them Duke boys. What other songs make you think of them?

Hm... good question. Actually there's a number of songs, both thoughtful and playful, that remind me of Hazzard and its people. My current favorite is "Back Where I Come From" by Kenny Chesney. Perfect lyrics, all through!

Lightening Does the Work by Chad Brock it has actual lightening and Thunder in the song and it reminds of something they would play in the Boar's Nest.

There's a song called 'Our Town', which really reminds me of the Dukes, it was played in the Disney / Pixar film 'Cars', and it always makes me think of Hazzard for some reason. I can't remember who sings it though.

At first I thought of "My Town" by Montgomery Gentry then I realized you wrote "Our Town". Nevertheless, the Montgomery Gentry song does remind me a lot of Hazzard. I'm gone.

When my Amazon order gets here (the 'Cars' Soundtrack is in that order), I'll post the song title and the artist. Shoot, I'll even post the German title and the artist that sang the translated song as well. ;)

Sound good? ;)

Lynard Synard's "Sweet Home Alabama" and "What's Your Name" I wish they could've been in the celebrity speed trap they would've rocked the Boars Nest for sure. Did you know that the Group got the name from a gym teacher and told them they wouldn't amount to anything.

the song what was i thinkin' by dierks bentley always reminds me of the dukes. it sounds soo much like somethin that would happen on the dukes. and it even says in it "hood slidin like bo duke." which is my favorite part of the song. it became my favorite song after i listened to it a couple times. and dierks bentley became my fave singer. but if you don't know the song check it out. its awesome.

hazzard's song is called: what was I thinkin'
Lori: ol' red probably because it's a song about breaking out of prison and there's the line about "on a prison farm in georgia"
others that remind me 'all american country boy' by alan jackson
'mud on the tires' brad paisley
'way down south' Josh turner, only because it plays dixie at the end.
'the last of a dying breed' neal mccoy
'if the world had a front porch' tracy lawrence
although that's all i can think of right now i'm sure there's more.

Well this is a hard question because there is so many songs out there and I can think of a few right off hand that remind me of Hazzard. Problem being, I know in another day or two I'll have another handful of songs. ;)

*Hillbilly Shoes* By Montgomery Gentry - just the attitude of the song and what it says.
*Big white Cadallac* By Dwight Yoakam - for Boss' car.
*Our Town* once again by Montgomery Gentry
*Good Ol' Boys* By Waylon Jennings -for the obvious reasons ;)
*Boondocks* by Little Big Town
*What was I thinkin'* By Dierks Bently

A couple were already mentioned, but I put them in for agreement. As I said above, I am sure I will think of more in a day or so. LOL.

Down South Jukin' - Lynyrd Skynyrd ( for those nights in the Boar's Nest)
AC/DC - Shoot To Thrill ( For those bowhunting days )
Tim McGraw - Down On The Farm ( Something I can picture Bo & Luke doing )

I love that song as it is one my favorites, BUT and it is a big but, listen to the last verse and there is no way it is something that the Dukes would do. The first two verses are so much Dukes related til they get the plan for the drug running.

Great song .

Copperhead Road - Steve Earle

Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year
He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad
He headed up the holler with everything he had
It's before my time but I've been told
He never came back from Copperhead Road

Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside
Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night
Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right
He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load
You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road

I volunteered for the Army on my birthday
They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway
I done two tours of duty in Vietnam
And I came home with a brand new plan
I take the seed from Colombia and Mexico
I plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road
Well the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I'm back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol' Charlie don't you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road

Howdy Capt_Redneck..yea your right bout the last verse, that is somethang the the Dukes would never do...I never relized that is what the end of the song was till I read it...Still like the song...just not the last part...Course there is this one dukes episode I dont member the name of it but Uncle Jesse was gittin a water heater I think, and they went to pick it up and they picked up the wrong one and it was filled with marijuana...that was funny...then Roscoe found em with it....funny...Anyways I'd say everyone would know who the dukes are even if they aint in a small town.lol. But that does sound like hazzard famous in a small town.

I don't know when this video came out, I watching a video countdown on GAC, and happened to see Jewel's new video. Yep, she's gone country. (who ain't, lately? )

At first I was like, ok, another chick wearing boots and getting out of a hot rod. Seen this before. 'Cept Jewel was getting out of a 78 Trans Am. Ok, I'm watching. She goes into a bar, makes eyes at some dude. Song is pretty tame.

But then she leaves the bar and does a smoking peel-out, and the dude jumps into his 1969 Charger to chase her. Here we go, I'm not changing the channel now...

The love chase turns into a game of chicken, with the Charger and the Trans Am heading right for each other, head-on. All the while, Jewel is singing her wistful little song and looking unconcerned. And THEN...

Well, I can't ruin it for ya. Try catching it for yourself. The Charger isn't orange, but this thing had Dukes of Hazzard influence written all over it.

And Jewel can sing a helluva lot better than Jessica Simpson.

I am a Jewel fan and I think she'll do well in the country music setting, and for that matter so will Jessica Simpson (dodges rotten tomatoes) but I don't really care for Jewel's song 'I do.' Don't know why really, it just isn't one that I like to listen to.
As far as songs that reflect the Duke Boys, I'm going with the Zac Brown Band and their song, "I like my chicken fried."

I like Holler Back also but the music video sucks. BIG TIME. Just the guys singing infront of a building/office park? How about some 'city slickers' running down an alley, trying to keep from being mugged (or maybe some idiots trying to act like a really tough crew who get trapped in an alley) and they fall through the brick wall into a camp area with bon fires, marshmallows and get led on a snipe hunt. Now that would be funny.

I think "Red Neck Yacht Club" also brings up connotations and visions of the Dukes. While I don't ever remember seeing a house boat anywhere on the farm or in the yard, the verse of passing around a jar and a guitar definitly says Duke.

The best thing I like about the song "Redneck Woman" is that she mentions Charlie Daniels and Hank Jr. Any song that mentions those two guys is okay in my book. I only wish that Rosco would have caught those two rednecks in his celebrity speedtrap. It would have been awesome to see them on Dukes.

Some great songs out there. A more obscure one I heard was "Carrying on Like We Did Before". Sung by Tom and John, I believe for the reunion movie so I guess it should remind on of the Dukes. Short and simple but I always liked it.

Is there anyone else out there that is in love with the song "I'm so Lonesome I could Cry" or am I the only one?

I really like Gretchen Wilson. She seems to be the female version of Hank Jr. and a little more gritty and real than some of the more 'girlie' singers out right now.

I have that song on my Hank Williams Sr. Greatest Hits CD.
It might possibly be the saddest song ever written.
I guess because it's so sad I can't really say I'm in love with it but I think it's a great song that can help people through tough times. When you're hurting that bad, it's always nice to know that there's someone out there who knows how you feel.
